"The Cloud Factory" is an ongoing reflection on growing up in a company town that highlights the inevitable compromise when a community relies on a harmful industry for survival.
Saint John, New Brunswick is home to some of the richest Canadians, alongside one of the country's poorest neighbourhoods - with a child poverty rate of 50 percent. The city is a microcosm of what is happening on a global scale, as large corporations prey on the poor in search of perpetual profits. These power structures are meant to keep industrial communities sick and marginalized, unable to fight the corporations that are oppressing them.
Ultimately, the project is my love letter to Saint John. My hometown. A city that I find challenging, ugly, beautiful, timeless, difficult and perfect all at the same time.
