Boreal Bash I

The Boreal Bash was born out of a commitment to providing photographers with the opportunity to meet and interact casually with editors and curators from all disciplines and levels of experience. In its inaugural year, the Bash hosted a sold-out, two-day photography workshop with Rob Hornstra (The Sochi Project) and Donald Weber (VII Photo), and a portfolio review program with local and international editors and photographers.

Over the course of three nights, the general public were able to enjoy free talks from Jeff Bierk, Laurence Butet-Roch, Aaron Vincent Elkaim, Jason Eskenazi, Tony Fouhse, Rob Hornstra, Clare Vander Meersch, Larry Towell, and Donald Weber.

A special thanks to Ciro's Pub for hosting the Bash in 2013.

Boreal Bash II

In 2014, Boreal partnered with the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival to bring James Estrin from the New York Times and Cheryl Newman from the Telegraph to Toronto for an evening of lively discussions about identity and documentary today. The evening also included a Q&A with members of Boreal moderated by photo editor Shelbie Vermette.

Boreal also launched their first newsprint publication, Tension, at the 2014 Bash.
