Boreal Bash 2016
Mexico
October 28—November 3, 2016

Boreal Collective is venturing South this year and hosting the Boreal Bash in Mexico this October. In line with Boreal’s ongoing commitment to fostering an environment of exchange, collaboration and learning, the theme for this year's event is Alternative Platforms for Storytelling. We will investigate new ways of getting stories out into the world, beyond traditional publishing platforms.

We are partnering with Encuentro Fotográfico México, an annual independent photography festival, that aims for solidarity, professionalization, worthy spaces, but most importantly to create opportunities for exchange of ideas, in search of a democratic exercise in the world of photography. Working in tandem, we will curate a schedule of artists talks, group discussions and portfolio reviews that will be relevant to Mexican photographers and the international photo community. The Bash and the Encuentro will take place on October 28-30th, at the famous Casa Click in San Andres Cholula in the state of Puebla, 2 hours away from Mexico City.

The collective will then travel 4 hours south to Oaxaca, where we will host the second Boreal Workshop (October 31st to November 3rd) during the Day of the Dead holiday. Members of the Boreal Collective will lead discussions about their work, approach, and individual practices. Workshop students will also have the opportunity to break off into smaller groups led by Boreal photographers. Working in the field during the Day of the Dead, these smaller groups will focus on developing skills and interests identified by each individual photographer. The workshop is open to both new and established photographers who are interested in documentary photography practice.

Schedule:
Oct 28-30: San Andres Cholula, Puebla Mexico – Boreal Bash (artist talks, portfolio reviews, community events)
